my favourite part of birthdays is the food. oh, and friends. and decoration. but, really, i like the food.
also, flowers. i like flowers.
i take every chance i get to plan a full menu, of things that compliment each other, of new recipes and old, so that my kitchen smells lovely and my friends are happy. andrew made the comment on sunday night, after friends had left, that we seem to be getting a reputation for hosting good parties. one of my friends commented that one her way to our place, she was secretly hoping for cake pops. i think that’s a good sign.
i can’t pick one favourite thing from the weekend, a particular dish or drink, but that just means i’m going to share them all with you.
all weekend, i drank this lemonade. i knew i wanted to make lemonade from scratch. a pile of lemons from the grocery store were calling my name.
makes concentrate for 4 liters (1L of concentrate to 3L water)
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
juice of six lemons
1/2 cup maraschino cherry syrup
whisk ingredients together in a pan, and bring to a boil. continue stirring until sugar has dissolved and the liquid has a syrupy consistency.
cool the liquid and mix half with 1 1/2 liters of cold water. slice 1 lemon into the pitcher. chill or serve. chill the remaining syrup and use as needed.
i froze maraschino cherries into ice cube trays fills with water for extra appeal.
really, it was that easy.
