a sweet success – cupcake camp 2.0 September 27, 2010

this weekend, in addition to training the dog and running a successful public art bike tour, i also conspired along with some wonderful folks to bring you this year’s edition of capital cupcake camp.
in sum, we raised over $6000 for women alive and youth services bureau, and 100 bakers participated. the photos, however, do better justice than i can:
don (of foodie prints) and our faithful volunteer, eleanor
delicious mocha and chocolate cupcakes
“let’s go south for christmas”, a play on christmas spice cake
we were so thankful for boxes from the candy store
bacon, a popular cupcake accoutrement
deidre, whose take on these root beer float cupcakes were incredible
the tray, after our judges demolished the cupcakes and chose their winners.
thank you to everyone who baked, volunteered and ate their way through the day. more photos, including some from the judging, can be found here.
updated: there were several requests for a winners list to be posted, and given that i was the one announcing the winners, you would think i would have added them to this post. but, i didn’t. so, i am now! links to photos of the cupcakes, taken by vanilla bean baker

[...] there has been a good bit of talk (from one blogger in particular) about the moral perils attached to sponsored posts; sponsored posts are those which are authored for remuneration, either in the form of products or money. advertising and advertorials are becoming more common in blogs and i personally don’t see anything wrong with that, because at the end of the day it’s not much different from campbell’s placing a soup advertisement next to a recipe that calls for soup. product placement has been part of our society since before television (radio shows were often sponsored and had products included in the content). since i don’t monetize my blog (at the moment), i look for opportunities to share events or organizations that are doing good things with food: for example, capital cupcake camp.
